Interesting Fact: Minorca (Menorca both in Catalan and Spanish and increasingly in British usage; from Latin Balearis Minor, "minor island") is one of the Balearic Islands. It takes its name from being smaller than nearby island of Majorca (Mallorca). The highest point on Menorca is Monte Toro at 1174 feet. The other two main Islands in the Balearic autonomous region are Ibiza and Formentera
Menorca is well known for its megalithic stone monuments: Taulas, and Talayots, which indicate very early prehistoric human activity.
The Romans sent an army to the Balearic islands to Quell piracy which was rampant in the 1st century. By 121 BC, Mallorca and Menorca were both under Roman control.
